A Parish Nurse is an experienced, registered nurse committed to the healing mission of the church.
With the direction of Rev. Tricia Jacobs, I visit the people in our congregation who are ill, are in the hospital, in the nursing homes, and those who are homebound.
In January, 2006, A Prayer Shawl Ministry was started on the fourth Monday morning and evenings of each month. Prayer shawls are knitted and blessed as they are being made and at completion. The shawls are then taken to shut-ins, hospitalized people, grieving people, new mothers and babies, and those who are going through a rough time in their lives. It is absolutely amazing how thankful and delighted people are when he or she receives a prayer shawl.
Every third Sunday of the month another nurse from the congregation and myself take blood pressures. Fifty to sixty people come into the conference room to have their blood pressures checked. Health counseling is also provided by the two nurses during the blood pressure check.
