Music & Worship

musicnotes

The traditional service features meaningful liturgy and prayer, thoughtful and biblically based sermons, engaging children’s sermons, and a warm and welcoming environment for those who choose to worship with us. A communion is served and offered to all Christians (regardless of denominational affiliation) on the first Sunday of each month.During our contemporary service you will hear the same sermon from the traditional service, but it will be presented in a multi-media format. Children’s sermons and communal prayer are observed during this service as well. The music is led by a team of talented musicians, and amazing singers.

At Westminster, we believe that one of the most profound ways in which we can worship God is through song. Throughout our congregation, this act of worship is manifested in several ways. Take a moment to explore some of the great ways Westminster worships our Lord!

Chancel Choir: Although the Chancel Choir’s primary objective is to provide musical leadership for our Sunday morning traditional worship and special services throughout the year, it’s also a thriving and growing fellowship group. The group practices on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and at 8:30 on Sunday mornings. Anyone who has a good sense of pitch and a blending voice is encouraged to join us!  Praise Team and Worship Band: Our band and singers welcome new additions! They lead our contemporary service, Jacob’s Well, at 11:15 each Sunday. The praise songs give glory to God in a style which appeals to people of all ages. The contemporary music leaders practice every other Tuesday evening at an agreed upon time. For information about joining the Praise singers, please e-mail Charissa Lambert at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Both are also available before or after worship.

The Meisteringers: This is our Adult Bell Choir which consists of 12 members and their director, Mabel Rempe ( This email address is being protected from spambots. Using a broad range of sounding techniques, the bell choir contributes to our worship regularly in meaningful and sometimes surprising ways - and also often participates alongside other groups.  The Meisteringers practice every Wednesday from 6 to 7:15 p.m.

WIG: The Westminster Instrumental Group is currently under the direction of Bob and Mary Jane Shaefer, this intergenerational group brings together everyone from high school musicians to octogenarians. WIG provides a musical treat for the congregation once in both the spring and fall at our traditional service. For more information of this fun opportunity, please contact the Shafers at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

LightShine: A choir comprised of middle and high school students, LightShine produces a musical or cantata each spring. This year’s musical, Once Upon a Parable, will be presented in conjunction with our Messenger Choir during both worship services on April 15. LightShine also sings with the Chancel Choir and during our contemporary service on occasion. Under the leadership of Lindsay Marks, LightShine practices during our Discovery Night on Wednesdays.

The Messenger Choir: Led by Lindsay Marks, the Messenger Choir is comprised of nearly 50 students in grade 1 through 5. Practices are held every Wednesday as part of Discovery Night and sings in worship. The Messenger Choir is currently working hard on this year’s musical, Once Upon a Parable. They also sing occasionally in both our traditional and contemporary services.

The Church Mice: Some of Westminster’s tiniest ones ages 3 year-old through kindergarten get the chance to praise the Lord through song! The group has 20-22 regular singers, and is directed by Carolyn Weichers. The Church Mice charm the congregation when they sing in worship and have fun together as they explore the joy of music.

The Westminster Chimes: Middle school students get the opportunity to be part of a bell ringing choir in the Westminster Chimes. Under the direction of Hillary Boogerd, the group practices from 4:15-4:55 each Wednesday during Discovery Night. Occasionally you will get the chance to hear them perform in both our traditional and contemporary worship services. The emphasis is on learning to praise God through multiple musical forms and appreciate the beauty of bells.

Junior Ringers: Led by Mabel Rempe, Our newest offering in bell ringing choirs gives fourth and fifth graders the chance to learn how to ring bells and praise God through music. The group practices on Wednesdays during Discovery Night from 4:15 to 4:55. They played for the first time in December at our annual Cocoa and Carols and will pay occasionally in worship.
