Prayer Ministries

prayer

Prayer is the foundation of life at Westminster. God created all of us to live in a loving relationship with Him. Speaking and hearing, communicating and loving, are at the very heart of God. At Westminster, we encourage everyone to pray corporately in worship and activities, as well as individually throughout daily life. To support this conviction we offer special prayer opportunities:

The Westminster Prayer Chain unites all who are willing to pray for our members, friends, and anyone in need. Prayer requests may be emailed to Pastor Tricia Jacobs at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or to Administrative Assistant Jodi Dieken at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . If you are not presently on the email Westminster Prayer Chain as a praying participant, please send your request to be added to one of the email addresses listed above. If you have a prayer request but don’t have e-mail, please contact the church office at 234-5501.

A 24 Hour Prayer Vigil   is held every January in our Sanctuary.   People sign up to pray for 30 minutes throughout 24 hour period. Participants are given lists of people and ministries to pray for in addition to the prayer needs they bring. People are also encouraged to make lists of things for which they’re grateful, taking those to God in prayer.

Tuesday Morning Prayer Group   Every Tuesday morning at 8:45, a small group gathers in the Chapel for an hour to pray for all those from our congregation and those beyond our walls in need of healing and hope. Members do not need to be comfortable praying out loud, nor do they have to commit to weekly attendance.

The 90 Days of Prayer at Westminster are an intimate way to connect with God and with other members during the 40 days of Lent and the 50 days of Easter. Participants are encouraged to join a small group of 3 or 4 people who meet weekly or bi-weekly to share devotions and pray together.   Prayer coaches are available to those seeking guidance.

Pray 20 brings a small group together each Sunday at 8:40 a.m. to pray that those who worship in either of our services are touched by God and our worship glorifies God. The Pray 20 group meets in our Adult Library. All are encouraged to join us.

A Lenten Devotional for 2012 that is available to Westminster members and friends was written by our Interim Pastor, the Reverend Cathy Young. This power prayer aid for each day of Lent features a brief devotion, a short prayer, and a linked passage from the daily Lectionary.

The Labyrinth   is part of the ancient tradition of “walking one’s prayers.” The most famous Labyrinth remaining today is at Chartres Cathedral near Paris.  The Westminster Labyrinth is much simpler; it’s designed with tape on the floor of our Social Hall. It works just as well as something more elaborate, however.   A labyrinth is walked/prayed in three stages

  1. Releasing: You begin your walk by shedding the details of your life, ridding yourself of distractions, opening your heart and quieting your mind.
  2. Receiving: As you walk toward the center, you will open your mind and heart to the Holy Spirit. As concerns or thoughts arrive, pause and offer them to God. When you arrive at the center (the Rosette), you can kneel at the cross, sit in a chair or stand as long as you desire.

Returning: As you follow the path back to the beginning, allow yourself to be empowered by the Holy Spirit to claim the insight, strength and comfort you have received.
