5 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. 6 But he said to them, "Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you." Mark 16:5-7
As we turn the calendar to March we are greeted with Easter Sunday! A glorious celebration of our risen Lord! Perhaps you feel like you just put the Christmas decorations away and you aren't ready to look for the Easter grass for the kid's baskets. I encourage you to benefit from the narrative story of the scriptures as they link together. Review the verses above, angels sharing the story of God's son sent to us as a babe, crucified on the cross and risen from the empty tomb. Angels all around proclaiming the news that we read in I John 4:9,
9 God's love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him.
As your pastor, it is so encouraging to hear the stories of how you are living out the command to serve our living Christ, indeed there are still angels among us. Early in February, Congolese students were driven from their home in the early morning hours as their home caught on fire in Cedar Falls. A ministry colleague of mine was called to the scene and when she arrived she saw a Westminster Elder who was volunteering for the Red Cross delivering a quilt to one of the students who was huddled in his car in the freezing temperature of a winter morning in Iowa. The quilt happened to be lovingly prepared and donated by the Piecemakers of Westminster. Before many of us were even awake, the hands, feet and love of our members were being extended to our friends in the community.
The Easter story is about the ultimate love of God; this love overcame death and now inspires us to love others the way that Christ loves us. May you experience the love of Christ in deep and meaningful ways as we live out together Holy Week and together we'll sing, Christ the Lord is Risen today!
Glory to God,
