What to Know When Visiting
Visiting a new church can be an intimidating thing. At Westminster, we want you to feel as comfortable as possible when you visit us. With that in mind, we’d like to address any concerns or questions you may have about visiting:
I need coffee! No need to panic! Coffee, along with juice, and even the occasional baked goods are available after our traditional service and during Jacob's Well. The second service actually has a coffee house like atmosphere. We have children in our congregation that have peanut allergies, so for their safety, we’re a “peanut free zone.”
Where do I park? Now that you know there is coffee, you might be thinking, “Okay, I can do this, but where do I park?” Westminster has two large parking lots, one in front of the church (on Kimball) and a larger lot located in back (off of Hale). If you have special mobility needs, no need to worry about parking. We ask our congregation to reserve the front lot for those with special needs. There are plenty of spaces available in front for those who need it.
How accessible is the church to people with special needs? The front door has a circle driveway for convenient entry, with an elevator that stops at all levels just to the left of entrance. Wheelchairs are located just to the left of this entrance as well. If the front lot fills up, we also have a handicapped accessible door off the back parking lot by the Shared Life Center. We also
have hearing assistance devices available for both services.
I have no idea how to dress! We all worry about this when we visit a new church. When you join us for a service here at Westminster, we want you to feel comfortable. We hope you will feel free to dress accordingly. In our first service, which is a traditional service, you’ll notice that most people dawn the more traditional church garb, like business or business casual. However if you join us for our second service, the contemporary feel of the service is reflected in the attire you will see. Lots of jeans, and shorts with flip flops in the summertime.
Are my children welcomed in worship? Absolutely! We hope your child feels as comfortable as you do. We include sermons for children in both services and our children’s choirs sing occasionally at each service. “Worship Bags” with activities to help children engage in the lesson are available in the Welcome Center. Quality child care is also available for babies and young children. We also work hard to seamlessly integrate children with special needs (autism, mental or physical challenges, etc) into our Christian education, child care and youth programming.
Where are the restrooms? The main floor has two sets of restrooms for males and females. One set is just past the sanctuary and the other is just to the right of the entrance to the Share Life Center. The lower level has restrooms to the left of the main staircase, with bathrooms for children between Sunday school classrooms.
How do I contact a pastor? You are always welcome to call the church office at 234-5501. You may send a personal email through the staff page of our website.
