Our Staff
Rev. Cathy Young
Cathy began serving as the Interim Pastor at Westminster in December, 2011. She’s a retired Presbyterian Church (USA) pastor who’s previously served at First Presbyterian Church, Waterloo and Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls. In retirement, she’s work part-time as a chaplain for Cedar Valley Hospice and written published devotionals and articles.
A Michigan native with degrees from the University of Colorado and the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, Cathy has been married to Waterloo native Rick Young for 43 years. They are the parents of 4 (one is deceased) and grandparents of 7.
Cathy’s responsibilities at Westminster include preaching, teaching, pastoral care and serving as head of staff. She also moderates the Session and staffs the Worship/Music, Finance, Personnel, Property and Membership/Outreach Committees.Cathy and Rick both enjoy traveling, reading, sailing and spending time with their family and close friends.
Rev. Patricia Jacobs
Tricia was born in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo to missionary parents. Returning to the U.S. when she was just 2 months old, Tricia grew up in West Chester, PA. Thanks to being selected for a prestigious Eli Lily Grant in 2010, Tricia and her family were able to return to her birthplace.
Tricia, who received her ordination in the American Baptist Church, graduated from William Jewell College in 1989 and Central Baptist Theological Seminary in 1992. She’s held pastorates at First Baptist, Waterloo (IA), The Baptist Church of West Chester, PA, and Warren Baptist Church in Warren, Maine.
At Westminster, Tricia preaches once a month, teaches Adult Education, and has responsibility for our Deacons and families ministries. She also works with our Missions, Hospitality, Christian Education and Membership/Outreach Committees. All community building groups and activities are blessed by her wonderful sense of humor and adventure.
Tricia is married to Bruce, who works for Community National Bank in Waterloo. They have two daughters, Hannah and Hope. Tricia very much enjoys traveling, reading biographies and zealously cheering on “her” Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles.
Scott Cose
Scott started as the Director of Youth Ministries at Westminster in August, 2009. His passion is youth ministry and he’s ministered to young people for over 30 years. Having been actively involved in multiple mission projects, camps, conference and retreats, his biggest reward is bringing the youth to a better understanding of their faith and the role it will play in their life’s journey.
Scott has been married to his wife Vicki for over 30 years; they’re blessed with three children and two grandchildren. Vicki is employed as a teacher in the Waterloo Community School System.
Scott loves meeting with young people and their parents. His office door is always open with a fresh pot of coffee available. Stop in and visit anytime. Feel free to wear your Green Bay Packer clothing!
Jodi Dieken
Jodi has been the Administrative Assistant at Westminster since February, 2005. She is responsible for the administration of our church office and does a wonderful job of keeping the staff on track. Jodi loves to read, watch movies, play with her nieces and her favorite vacation is fishing in Minnesota every year with her family.
Sally Boger
Sally works as a secretary in the office four days a week. Her primary responsibilities are attendance, answering phones, greeting people, and helping the Christian Education and Music ministries. Sally is married to Ted and they have three daughters and seven grandchildren. She loves to bake, sew, read and enjoy the outdoors.
Becky Dietz
Becky has been the part-time Financial Secretary at Westminster for 16 years and served as the Christian Education Coordinator for five. She and her husband Wally have been members at Westminster for 35 years.
Larry Nosbisch
Larry is our senior custodian and jack-of-all trades. Larry, who is retired from John Deere, is married to Kristi. They have 3 grown children and a 12-year-old son, Joe. They’re also the grandparents of five. Larry loves to golf and fish.
Nancy Werner
Nancy is our part-time associate custodian. She’s a hard worker who takes great pride in what she does. Nancy is very close to her family. She enjoys reading, games, the outdoors and animals.
Bruce Rempe
Bruce, our interim Chancel Choir Director, is a graduate of Central College. He’s been leading and participating in church music programs and ministries for 23 years. Bruce is passionate about a program that submits and prepares itself to serve the mission and ministries of the church through music. As interim director, Bruce is working hard to build the program’s diversity, range and participation levels. In his spare time, Bruce is the Head Coach for a local school district’s Robotics program.
Mabel Rempe
Mabel serves as the director of the Meisterringers (adult bell choir) and the Junior Ringers (4th and 5th graders) at Westminster. She also accompanies the Messenger Choir. Mabel teaches 5th grade band and is the instrumental music facilitator for the Waterloo Community Schools. She and her husband, Bruce, have three children and live in La Porte City.
Mike Machalicek
Mike, a band teacher for the Waterloo Schools, leads our superb praise band. An extraordinarily gifted musician, Mike is married to Julie. They have three children and two grandchildren. Mike is the leader of a great local band, Checker and the Bluetones.
Charissa Lambert
Charissa, who leads the Praise Singers in our contemporary service, is married to Jeff. They’re the parents of twins born in 2010, Anthony and Paisley. Charissa is the 7-8th grade vocal music teacher at Waverly-Shell Rock.
Hillary Boogerd
Hillary leads our youth bell choir, The Westminster Chimes. She received her degree from UNI in Music Education and is currently a long-term music substitute at Kittrell Elementary in Waterloo. She and her husband, Jonathan, are the parents of 18-month-old Kaylee.
Dr. Kui-Im Lee
Kui-lm, who was born in Seoul, South Korea, is our organist. She received a B.M. degree in music from Seoul National University and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. She is currently Assistant Professor of Music Theory, Composition and Organ at the University of Northern Iowa. She lives in Cedar Falls with her feline babies, Chloe and Soso, and enjoys shopping, teaching music theory and eating Korean food.
Judy Morris
Judy, RN, is our parish nurse. Judy works on Monday and Wednesday mornings to visit people in hospitals and nursing homes. She also calls on mothers and new babies when they return home. She provides free blood pressure checks one Sunday morning per month. Judy enjoys spending time with her 3 children and 4 grandchildren, as well as traveling throughout the U.S.
Carolyn Weichers
Carolyn directs the Church Mice (our choir for ages 3 through kindergarten) and is Director of Child Care. Carolyn taught special education in the Waterloo Schools for 38 years. Her husband, Steve, is also a retired teacher. They have three grown children, four grandchildren, and two more on the way. Carolyn loves to read and spend time at their cabin in Wisconsin. She loves children, which is obvious to anyone who watches her work with them.
